Baku-APA. Kyrgyzstan’s newly inaugurated President Roza Otunbayeva on Saturday said that parliamentary democracy was the best and most prudent choice for her country, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Otunbayeva said in her inauguration sppech that a parliamentary democracy by diminishing presidential powers was chosen after serious ruminations considering customs, ethnicity and historical experience.

"In Kyrgyzstan, democracy is a system that has deep roots in the souls of the people," Otunbayeva said.

She said that she "will spare no effort in creating a new political culture based on strict adherence to the rule of law" as president.

Otunbayeva, the first female president of Kyrgyzstan, also vowed to promote constructive cooperation with all other political powers.

The president said one priority of the new government will be to tap the economic potential of Kyrgyzstan to meet the needs of society and the people.

She also stressed that new government will concentrate on establishing new cultural policies to protect traditional culture amidst globalization.

Otunbayeva’s inauguration came one day after the Central Election Commission announced that Kyrgyzstan’s new constitution had been overwhelmingly approved last Sunday in a nationwide constitutional referendum.

The new constitution creates a parliamentary democracy and gives legitimacy to the interim government that took power after former President Kurmanbek Bakiyev was ousted in April.

Otunbayeva will serve as president until 2011 elections.
