Baku – APA. Israel has wheeled out the latest weapon in its airforce - a fleet of huge, long-range unmanned drones capable of reaching rival Iran, APA reports quoting Sky News.
The Heron TP drone is as big as a fighter jet with a wing span of 86ft (26 metres) and is claimed to be able to fly for up to 20 hours.
An Israeli air force officer said the drones could "reach anywhere that the Israeli air force need to reach, without naming this country or the other".
The pilotless planes can be used for long-range surveillance missions or attack ground targets, if fitted with missiles.
The drones unveiling came as Iran announced plans to start building two new uranium enrichment plants from next month, with the sites concealed in the mountains to avert air strikes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has renewed his call for the international community to impose an oil embargo on Iran over its nuclear drive, regardless of the UN Security Council.
"We must prohibit Iranian oil exports and imports to Iran of refined oil products. No other sanctions will be effective," he said.
"It is uncertain that these measures will suffice, but at least we will have tried."
Israel considers Iran a threat because of its nuclear programme, long-range missile tests and repeated references by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to the Jewish state’s destruction.
