Russian President Vladimir Putin has achieved Russia's playing a leading role in the Middle East, said Republican U.S. Senator John McCain, APA reported citing RIA Novosti.
According to him, the Russian leader realized his dreams very wisely, despite the fact that they didn’t have good cards in their hands.
McCain said that the U.S. had to be satisfied with an invitation to the negotiations that will be held in Kazakhstan's capital Astana on 23 January in connection with the settlement of the Syrian conflict.
John McCain is known for his anti-Russian stance. He is one of the initiators of the sanctions imposed against Russia.
