John Kerry ruled out U.S. involvement in the coup attempt in Turkey

Baku-APA.  U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry in conversation with Turkish foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu warned that statements about the US involvement in the coup attempt in Turkey to harm bilateral relations, APA reports with reference to state Department spokesman John Kirby.

 

“He [Kerry] made clear that the United States stands ready to assist the Turkish authorities in the investigation, but public insinuations or allegations about any United States role in the failed coup attempt are false and harm our bilateral relations,” — said Kirby.


As stated in message the state Department, Kerry also reiterated its support for the democratically elected government of Turkey, urging Ankara to show restraint and respect for the law when the investigation into the coup attempt.

 

On July 16, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on us counterpart Barack Obama to extradite Turkish Islamic preacher Fethullah Gulen, whom Ankara accuses of attempting a military coup. “If we are strategic partners, follow our request. Because we gave terrorists, which you asked for”, said the head of state.

 

Earlier, U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry said that Washington is ready to consider the evidence linking Gülen to the coup attempt
