According to a statement issued by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, acting Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina on Wednesday morning received the chief of the United States Interests Section in Havana, Jeffrey DeLaurentis.
DeLaurentis handed Medina a letter to Cuban leader Raul Castro from President Barack Obama, confirming the decision to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries and reopen embassies in their respective capitals, as of July 20.
Washington broke off formal ties with Havana in January 1961 as part of sanctions against the revolution led by Fidel Castro.
