Baku-APA. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and the leader of FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - People's Army ) rebels Rodrigo Echeverri (also known as Timochenko) have signed a new peace deal in Bogota, APA reports quoting Sputnik.
The original peace deal was rejected by the people of Colombia in a referendum last month. The new deal contains some 60 amendments.
The signed peace accord would be sent to the country's parliament for ratification. FARC was formed in 1964 as the military wing of Colombia's Communist Party. The half-century war between the FARC and the Colombian government claimed the lives of a quarter of a million people. The two sides began peace talks in November 2012. It is noteworthy that this time the peace deal will not be put to a public vote
