The United States registered record 2.76 million migrant border crossings this year, according to the data released by Customs and Border Protection, as the Biden administration continued to struggle with formalizing its border policy, APA reports citing Teletrader.
"While this early data is not reflected in the latest report, it confirms what we've said all along: when there is a lawful and orderly way to enter the country, individuals will be less likely to put their lives in the hands of smugglers and try to cross the border unlawfully," the agency's commissioner Chris Magnus noted.
The 60% annual increase in the fiscal year ending September 2022 was mostly led by the influx of migrants from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
