Syrian Interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa arrived at the White House for talks with US Chief of Staff Donald Trump, APA reports citing White House press service.
"The Syrian President arrived at the White House at 11:37 a.m. The meeting between President Trump and President al-Sharaa has begun," the press service stated.
The negotiations are being held behind closed doors; there was not even any official filming at the beginning, nor was there a public ceremony welcoming the distinguished guest to Trump. Al-Sharaa arrived not at the main entrance to the West Wing of the White House, which houses the American leader's Oval Office (which, according to Trump's previously announced schedule for Monday, was where the meeting was planned to take place), but from the so-called Eisenhower Executive Office Building. This building, part of the White House complex, houses the majority of the offices of the presidential and vice presidential staff, as well as the National Security Council.
According to the American press, this is the first ever visit of a Syrian leader to the White House.
