Republican Senator from South Carolina Tim Scott is expected to officially announce entering the United States 2024 presidential race on May 22, APA reports citing Teletrader.
At a political event in Charleston, South Carolina on Sunday, Scott scheduled a "major" announcement for later this month.
"Tell your friends. Be in attendance. We will have a major announcement, and you're going to want to be there," Scott told reporters. While the senator hasn't confirmed the campaign, he launched an exploratory committee, and a film crew could be seen gathering video ad fodder for what local media are seeing as the steps toward an official bid.
With about 2% support nationwide, the only Black Republican in the Senate stands behind GOP frontrunners former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley previously confirmed she would also compete in presidential elections.
