U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he plans to discuss the global turning point and the new role of the United States and its allies during his visit to Europe, APA reports.
"I think we're at a turning point now. And I'll even refer to my speech or statement I made during my confirmation hearings for Secretary of State: the world is changing very rapidly, right before our eyes. The old world, the world I grew up in, is gone. And we're living in a new era of geopolitics, and that will require all of us to rethink what that means and what our role will be," he told reporters before flying to Europe to participate in the Munich Security Conference.
"We've had a lot of private conversations about this with many of our allies, and <…> we need to continue those conversations. I think we'll make progress on this on Saturday and hopefully in the meetings we have there," Rubio added.
He noted that Europe is a crucial region for the United States, and its history is closely tied to America's. "We are deeply connected to Europe, and our future has always been and will always be connected to it. So we just need to talk about what that future will look like," the Secretary of State said.
During his visit to Europe, Rubio plans to visit Germany, Slovakia, and Hungary from February 13 to 16.
