Iran’s Caucasus policy discussed in Washington

Baku - APA. A meeting entitled “Iran and Caucasus” was organized in Washington by the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute of the School for Advanced and International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, APA reports.

The major speakers were famous experts on the region Brenda Shaffer and Alex Vatanka, former Georgian ambassador to US Temuri Yakobashvili.

The speakers gave information about the policy pursued by Iran with respect to the countries of the Caucasus. They also spoke about Iran’s support for Armenia, it was noted that against the background of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, this aid runs contrary to the religious ideology of Iranian authorities, this support helped Armenians much in the tense years of Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Commenting on the experts views, representatives of Armenia’s embassy in the US said they highly appreciated Armenia-Iran relations. The Armenian diplomats admitted that Armenia received humanitarian aid from Iran in the years of war.
