JD Vance is now being sworn in as vice president while being surrounded by his family: wife Usha and children Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, APA reports citing CNN.
Unlike the president, an oath for the vice president is not specified in the Constitution. Instead, it was created by Congress and appears in the US Code. It’s also the same oath that is taken by other federal officials, including lawmakers.
Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is administering the oath of office to Vance.
Here’s what Vance will say:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.”
The vice president is typically sworn in shortly before the president.
