U.S. Vice President JD Vance described Bella 1 as a “fake Russian oil tanker” that pretended to be Russian “in an effort to avoid the sanctions regime,” APA reports.
In an interview with Fox News, US Vice President JD Vance said on the Bella 1 (renamed “Marinera”) oil tanker, “It was a fake Russian oil tanker. They basically try to pretend to be a Russian oil tanker in an effort to avoid the sanctions regime.”
The Marinera, formerly known as the Bella-1, was empty of oil, but the U.S. says it and the M Sophia belong to a "shadow fleet" of tankers used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran.
