United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Washington, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The two discussed the importance of the UN Charter "in light of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine" and ways of preserving it. Blinken thanked Guterres for his involvement in negotiating the Black Sea Grain Initiative and his efforts to extend it.

Blinken also vowed to continue working with the UN "to press for a permanent cessation of hostilities, to protect civilians, and to ensure humanitarian access for UN agencies" in Sudan. The US pledged its "resolute support" for the UN Sustainable Development Goals, a set of 17 initiatives to end poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, and fight climate change.
