Baku-APA. Successive votes at the United Nations against U.S. embargo on Cuba show that Washington is isolated on the issue, a Cuban official said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The resolution clearly shows that the overwhelming majority (at the UN) is on our side," said Rodolfo Benitez, an official of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

He noted that voting results at the UN General Assembly for 20 years have consistently favored an end to the 50-year-old embargo.

He said Cuba is optimistic about the upcoming General Assembly vote on Nov. 13.

Every year for the past two decades, Cuba has appealed to the UN General Assembly against the embargo, saying it was designed to bring "hunger, desperation and suffering" to the Caribbean country, destabilize its society and topple the government.
