61 injured in multiple vehicle crash in Brazil

Baku-APA. Sixty-one people were injured, one seriously, in a multiple vehicle crash on early Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro, the second largest city of Brazil, official sources said, APA reports.

The accident involving two passenger buses and a public transportation minivan occurred along the Marechal Fontenelle Avenue, in the Sulacap district of western Rio, the sources said.

According to a spokesmen from a local fire department, five ambulances were dispatched to the site for rescue operation.

All of the injured were taken to three local hospitals, with most having been discharged after treatment for their minor injuries, the sources said.

One of the bus drivers was seriously injured after he was trapped inside the vehicle by the crash, and special equipment was needed to cut him loose. However, the sources did not elaborate on the cause of the accident.
