Baku-APA. The U.S. Treasury is sending its point man on international sanctions to Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and India to discuss efforts to better combat terror financing and implement economic sanctions, it was announced here on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

During his visit this and next week, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David Cohen will meet with senior government officials and representatives from the private sector in Islamabad and Karachi of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi and Dubai of the UAE, and New Delhi and Mumbai of India, continuing the Treasury’s global engagement on illicit finance issues and money laundering, the department said in a statement.

Besides, Cohen will discuss with members of the formal and informal financial sectors in each country "the risks of illicit finance and sanctions evasion that those sectors face, and steps that governments and the financial sector can take to protect the global financial system," the department added.

Washington and its allies are stepping up sanctions against the Syrian government amid continued violence and bloodshed in the Middle East country. Iran also faces tough U.S. and European sanctions and oil embargo for its controversial nuclear program.
