US to help Georgia in development of air defense

Baku – APA. The US will help Georgia to develop its air defense, as well as modernize fleet of helicopters, issued in a statement of the US Department of State, APA reports.

The announcement was made in connection with the recent visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to Georgia and the meeting of the US-Georgian Commission on the Strategic Partnership in Batumi on June 5. Options for assisting the Georgian side in the development of air monitoring and surveillance in the coastal strip was discussed at the meeting, which Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri participate. The US also does not preclude assistance to Georgia in training military personnel and the modernization of utility helicopters.

According to the statement, the US considers Abkhazia and South Ossetia as territory of Georgia. The variants of establishment of relations between Georgia and Abkhazia and South Ossetia were discussed at the meeting.
