Helicopter with 16 on board missing in Peru

Baku-APA. A helicopter carrying 14 foreigners and two crew had gone missing in southeastern Peru, police said Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The aircraft, which took off from the city of Mazuco in the southeastern region of Madre de Dios late Wednesday, carried 12 South Koreans, two Austrians and two Peruvian pilots and was heading for the Cusco region of southeastern Peru.

Police said the aircraft was supposed to land in Cusco around 17:00 Wednesday, but nothing had been heard from it as of early Thursday morning.

A preliminary investigation showed the passengers were employees of a multinational company whose job was prospecting the border between Madre de Dios and Cusco, although they were formerly believed to be foreign tourists.

The Peruvian police have mounted a search, using helicopters.
