Baku-APA. The Venezuelan government has banned sales of guns and ammunition in the country in order to curb widespread violence, APA reports quoting Press TV.

“We are going to make serious efforts as President Chavez has done for the security of our citizens. We’re going to continue to fight against criminals and more importantly against what causes violence,” Venezuelan Vice President Elias Jaua said.

A criminal law professor in the country suggested that the government should implement other strategies to decrease the violence.

“This can’t just be done by law… in public policy, we need strategies, a combination of prevention and control,” Elsie Rosales told Press TV.

“We need to make easier the process of returning the guns, so we reaffirm human values and reject violence on the use of guns,” she added.
