Four people missing after boat collision in midwestern U.S. state

Baku-APA. Rescue workers were searching the Mississippi River in the U.S. state of Iowa for four people who went missing after two boats collided early Saturday morning, local media reports said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The crash took place in the O’Connell Slough area of the river, near Burlington in the southeastern Iowa, the local media reports quoted Kevin Baskins, the spokesman for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, as saying. The accident involved two flat- bottomed boats, one carrying 11 people and the other with a single occupant.

Baskins said eight people were pulled from the water and were later hospitalized.

The cause of the collision remained unknown for the time being and an investigation into the accident is underway.
