Baku-APA. A U.S. senior diplomat on Monday urged the international community to unite to stop further " provocations" by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Kurt Campbell, U.S. assistant secretary of state for Asian and Pacific affairs, who visited Seoul earlier in the day, made the call after meeting with South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung- hwan and South Korea’s chief nuclear negotiator Lim Sung-nam.

Campbell’s Asia trip, which brought him to Tokyo and will also bring him to India and Singapore, came after the DPRK conducted a failed rocket launch last week. The White House condemned the launch as a violation of U.N. resolutions and a threat to regional stability.

"We agree that even though the launch was a failure, it was a provocative action that threatens international security" as well as violating U.N. Security Council resolutions. It also contravenes the DPRK’s own recent commitments, Campbell told reporters after meeting with South Korean officials.

"The international community is united in its strong determination to discourage any further provocations from the DPRK, " he said.
