Baku-APA. The National Hurricane Center of the United States said on Monday that Hurricane Katia has grown to category three with sustained winds of up to 115 miles per hour, but the storm is still far away from any land to pose a threat to the U.S. East Coast, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The Miami-based center said that Katia has become a major hurricane, but the storm is now on the Caribbean, and is very far away from any land, thus unlikely to pose any danger to persons or property on land. According to the hurricane center, the biggest threat stemming from this storm is only rip currents along the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda.

The storm is moving at a speed of 12 miles per hour Northwestwardly. It is not expected to hit the U.S. mainland.

The U.S. East Coast is recovering from damages done by Irene. President Barack Obama visited parts of storm affected New Jersey on Sunday.
