UN chief condemns arson attack in Mexico

Baku-APA. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon said Friday that he was appalled by the arson attack that killed dozens of people in Mexico, condemning the "deplorable act of violence" occurred on late Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The secretary-general is appalled by the arson attack that killed 53 people in Monterrey, Mexico yesterday," said a statement released by Ban’s spokesperson. "He condemns this deplorable act of violence and expresses his condolences and solidarity to the families of the victims and the government of Mexico."

In the statement, Ban said the United Nations "stands with the people of Mexico at this difficult moment." Mexican authorities believed drug gangs were behind the attack.
