Somali PM ousted by parliament

Baku-APA. Somali lawmakers on Monday voted overwhelmingly to oust Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud called on Shirdon to resign after accusing his government of incompetence and failing to deliver promises.

Following two days of deliberations and debate on a motion of non-confidence vote in parliament, 250 out of the 275 lawmakers attended Monday's session.

As many as "184 voted in favor of the motion while 66 voted against the motion of no-confidence therefore is adopted," Parliament Speaker Mohmaed Osman Jawari announced after the vote.

Shirdon has been in office for 15 months since appointed by President Hassan in October 2012.

Shirdon, 55, a former businessman and economist, defends his government record, saying it has delivered on its promises. He has also pledged to abide by the parliament decision.

The Somali president has 30 days to appoint a new prime minister, who will in turn form a government.
