Baku-APA. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has ousted General Prosecutor Abdel-Maguid Mahmoud, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The decision came after one day from the Criminal Court decided to acquit all defendants accused of attacking peaceful protesters at Tahrir Square during the uprising last year in what is known as "camel battle."

A total of 24 top officials of the dissolved former ruling National Democratic Party, included former speakers of Shura Council (upper house) and People’s Assembly (lower house) Safwat Sherief and Ahmed Fathy Serour were charged in murdering demonstrators in February 2011 at Tahrir, the epicenter of protests that ousted former President Hosni Mubarak.

The lawsuit against them said they had hired dozens of men to ride horses and camels to frighten and disperse lines of protesters in the square, and that the attack had killed at least 11 people and injured thousands of others.

The court decision disappointed several segments of the society. "April 6" movement in line with the Islamic movements has called for a nationwide protest on the court decision Friday.
