Baku-APA. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon on Monday met with President of Equatorial Guinea Obiang Nguema Mbasogo in the margins of the 67th UN General Assembly, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Ban reiterated the UN commitment to support efforts by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon to settle their border dispute peacefully by submitting the case to the International Court of Justice, said a statement released by the UN.

Ban and Obiang agreed on the importance of "concluding the mediation process in a timely manner," the statement said.

The UN chief also welcomed the final statement of the summit of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community in July, which encourages the parties to "find a peaceful settlement of their border dispute by jointly exploiting the resources of the contested zone,"according to the statement.

Ban’s special adviser and mediator of the border dispute between Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, Nicolas Michel, also attended the meeting.
