Baku-APA. The United Nations Security Council on Friday strongly condemned the deadly suicidal attack Thursday on a restaurant in Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, which left 14 people dead and more than 20 others injured, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"The members of the Security Council condemn in the strongest terms yesterday’s bombings in Mogadishu," the 15-nation council said in a press statement issued here, extending their condolences to the victims and their families, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and to the people of Somalia.

The deadly attack took place as double suicide bombers blew themselves up at a restaurant in central Mogadishu on Thursday evening. The restaurant is frequented by journalists and government officials.

The council also underlined their resolve to support Somalia in its efforts for peace and reconciliation.

"After Somalia has taken such an important step in completing the transition, it is deplorable that ordinary Somalis have again been targeted by those who do not wish to see a more peaceful Somalia," said the statement.

The Security Council reiterated its determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.

Member states are urged that measures taken to combat terrorism should comply with all their obligations under international law, in particular international human rights, refugee and humanitarian law, the statement added.
