New national park to be established in Kalbajar

A new National Park will be created in Kalbajar, APA reports.

This was reflected in the “Report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2025,” which was discussed at today’s session of the Milli Majlis.

It was noted that on May 5–7, 2025, field research was conducted in the Kalbajar district by the Institute of Zoology of the Ministry of Science and Education and Azerbaijan Representative Office of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in order to explore the possibilities of establishing new specially protected natural areas, as well as to study populations in biotopes of the Persian leopard (Panthera pardus) and the Bezoar goat (Capra aegagrus)—rare and endangered species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Azerbaijan—within the natural landscapes of the Kalbajar district. In addition, on September 23–24, monitoring was conducted in the territories of the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, particularly in the direction of the Girkhgiz mountains and Meydan plain, in connection with the establishment of the new National Park planned in Kalbajar.

At the same time, the map of the Arazboyu State Nature Reserve was prepared, submitted in accordance with relevant procedures, and approval was obtained.
