A 30-member delegation from the world-famous Most Traveled People (MTP) travel club arrived in Aghdam on July 10 as part of their tour of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, APA’s Karabakh bureau reports.
The group, consisting of travelers from 15 countries, is led by MTP founder, American Charles Veley.
the travelers first visited the Martyrs' Alley in Aghdam, where they were informed that some of the heroic defenders who died in the First Karabakh War, as well as some of the peaceful civilians killed during the Khojaly genocide, are buried here.
It was noted that Armenian vandals who destroyed the city also damaged the graves at Martyrs' Alley.
The foreign travelers viewed the ruins of Aghdam city and the newly constructed residential buildings. An official from the Presidential Special Representation informed them about the vandalism committed by Armenians during the occupation and the extensive reconstruction and construction work carried out by the Azerbaijani government since the city’s liberation.
The travelers also visited the Aghdam Juma Mosque, which was built between 1868 and 1870 and, like other historical and religious monuments, suffered from Armenian vandalism. The mosque’s minarets were dismantled from the inside, the ceiling partially collapsed in several places, and its designs and inscriptions were deliberately damaged. Armenians used the mosque to shelter livestock. After the liberation, the mosque was restored by the Azerbaijani government.
Over the course of their three-day trip, the travelers will visit the districts of Fuzuli, Khojavend, Shusha, Khankendi, Khojaly, Aghdam, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, and Jabrayil. The trip plays a significant role in promoting Azerbaijan’s liberated territories within the framework of dark tourism.
Over the past four years, international travel delegations have visited the Karabakh and East Zangezur regions a total of thirteen times.
