Azerbaijan is becoming one of the tourism destinations that attracts great interest from Chinese citizens, said the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Azerbaijan, Lu Mei, at the 'China Visitors Summit' held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

She noted that the trust-based partnership that has been developing between the two countries since 1992 has risen to a higher level in recent years.

Lu Mei stated that President Ilham Aliyev’s two visits to China this year and the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership with Chinese President Xi Jinping have opened new opportunities in all areas, including tourism.

According to official data, the number of Chinese tourists visiting Azerbaijan in 2024 was 44,798. In the first three quarters of 2025, this figure reached 49,939, showing an 11.5% annual increase. The ambassador emphasized that the mutual visa exemption regime has led to a record increase in tourist flow.

Lu Mei noted that the new strategic development documents adopted in China, including the 'Fifteenth Five-Year Plan', further expand the country’s open economic policy and create new opportunities for cooperation with Azerbaijan. The Chinese side has declared that it is ready to share the opportunities brought by the modernization process with Azerbaijan and to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation.

The dialogue has been assessed as an important platform for strengthening professional communication between representatives of the tourism industries of the two countries, preparing new tourism products, and elevating relations to the next stage.
