Azerbaijan to host Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window – Lot 6 conference

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. EU Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (Lot 6) for the South Caucasian countries will hold its partnership conference in Azerbaijan. The Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EM ECW) is a program carried out for achieving better understanding and mutual enrichment between the European Union and third countries co-operation in the field of higher education through promoting the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills at higher education level, Azerbaijan Tourism Institute told APA. This will be achieved through the promotion of partnerships and institutional co-operation exchanges between European Higher Education Institutions and Third Country institutions and a mobility scheme addressing student and academic exchanges. Azerbaijan Tourism Institute is one of the EM ECW winners and it has carried out student and academic exchanges with 16 high schools of Greece, France, Latvia, Bulgaria, Italy, Portugal and the Netherlands since 2007. Two members of Portuguese academic team taught in the Azerbaijan Tourism Institute, one student from Portugal and two from France attended the Master’s Program in Azerbaijan. The Institute sent five students, two master’s applicants and one researcher to Europe in academic year 2007/2008. A member of the Institute’s academic team visited Angers University of France in academic year 2008/2009. Six students, two researchers, one doctor and one master’s applicant are attending education programs of European institutes now.
Azerbaijani higher schools – EM ECW participants will hold events on September 9-13 to review achievements reached within the program and results of first phase. The similar events were organized in the European and neighboring countries as well. Representatives of the universities of partner countries – Greece, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Georgia, as well as Greek business people will visit Azerbaijan during the conference. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, Minister of Education Misir Mardanov, EU representative and EM ECW coordinator Tania Kapikin will make welcoming speeches at the conference’s opening ceremony. Then students and professors of the Azerbaijan Tourism Institute – participants of the program will make reports. The project organizers will award the best student during the conference. The event will be held in English.
