Exhibition-scientific conference “Baku is the capital of Islamic culture” takes place

Exhibition-scientific conference on the theme “Baku is the capital of Islamic culture” devoted to the 86th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev has been held in Azerbaijan Tourism Institute today, APA reports. Rector of Azerbaijan Tourism Institute Jafar Jafarov said Azerbaijan is a country uniting Western and eastern culture, to learn its rich cultural heritage is of great importance for the whole Islamic world.

Department chief of Manuscripts Institute named after Fuzuli Nasib Goyushov said that Islamic civilization always had special place among the civilizations. He said it was not right to explain the spread of Islam only from the aspect of religious faith.
“The spread of Islam is also connected with cultural tradition and science. Islam attaches great importance to science. One of the cultural indicators of Islam is culture of book. There are not so many books about other religion,” he said.

Doctor of historical sciences Farid Alakbarli said Azerbaijan contributed valuable works on cultural, medical and other spheres to Islamic world. He said Muslim scholars played great role in the development of medicine.

The works by calligrapher Vugar Allahverdiyev were exhibited at the event.
