The spring has come to Azerbaijan.
Khidir Mikayilov, deputy director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasiradddin Tusi of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) told APA that an equinox was observed in Azerbaijan at around 20.15 Baku time on March 20 as the spring season arrived in the country.
The deputy director said that at the equinox the sun crossed the celestial equator entering the sky's Northern Hemisphere, noting that this moment marks when the Earth’s movement sphere overlaps with the equator sphere.
“This point is called “vernal equinox point”. The spring equinox occurs when the sun is straight above that point. From that moment on, the astronomic spring begins in the northern hemisphere and this period lasts up until June 21,” he added.
