Mehriban Aliyeva is at the forefront of gender equality movement, TurkPA Secretary General says

"We are pleased that the delegations of Hungary and Uzbekistan in recent years have been taking part in the plenary sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Turkic-Speaking countries (TurkPA)," TurkPA Secretary General Altynbek Mamayusupov said during a speech at the international conference on “The Role of Women of the Turkic World in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” organized by the Azerbaijani Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries in Baku, APA reports.

According to him, Turkic peoples have always treated women as irreplaceable wealth: “Among the Turkic-speaking peoples, women had the same right in the family as men, they were adequately represented in state administration. Exactly 101 years ago, Azerbaijan became the first country in the East to grant women the right to vote. Today, the first vice-president of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva, is at the forefront of the gender equality movement. Mehriban Aliyeva excelled in her multifaceted activities in this area. ”

According to the TurkPA Secretary General, an exchange of views should be carried out in the field of legislation of Turkic-speaking countries on gender equality.

A. Mamayusupov noted that women are still subject to various types of violence.
