Isa Habibbeyli: Ramiz Mehdiyev's actions do not allow him to remain a full member of ANAS

The actions of Ramiz Mehdiyev do not allow him to remain a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), said ANAS President Isa Habibbeyli, APA reports.

He said that the issue of Ramiz Mehdiyev’s membership in the Academy will be reviewed, and an appropriate assessment will be made.

“The academy has a clear position on this matter. Ramiz Mehdiyev’s actions against Azerbaijan’s independent statehood and the accusations against him absolutely do not allow him to remain a member of the academy. The issue will be considered at the Academy and the necessary decision will be taken,” he stated.

Note that Ramiz Mehdiyev is currently charged under Articles 278.1 (actions aimed at seizing state power), 274 (treason), and 193-1.3.2 (legalization of property obtained through criminal means) of the Criminal Code.

The Sabail District Court of Baku made a decision in the criminal case against Ramiz Anvar oglu Mehdiyev on October 14 of this year. According to the decision, the court granted the motion regarding Ramiz Mehdiyev, who is prosecuted for particularly serious criminal acts, and imposed house arrest as a preventive measure for a period of 4 months.
