Today, a press conference was held regarding the documentary film “The Oligarch’s Design,” produced within the framework of the new editorial direction titled “AnewZ Investigations” by the international news and analytics channel AnewZ, APA reports.
During the press conference, it was stated that the film examines how political influence can be shaped through philanthropy, financial architecture, and carefully constructed narratives.
It was noted that “The Oligarch’s Design” is based on open-source information and international investigations that exposed the “Troika Laundromat” financial network, through which billions of dollars were moved via offshore structures.
One of the main sections of the documentary is dedicated to the process of Ruben Vardanyan renouncing Russian citizenship in 2022, relocating to the region, and beginning political activities within the political sphere of an unrecognized separatist regime.
Rufat Hamzayev, Executive Director of the AnewZ television channel, stated that the documentary was filmed in 8 countries over a period of 10–11 months and that nearly 100 people contributed to the project.
He noted that in the parts of the film shot in Armenia, interviews were conducted with individuals who worked together with Ruben Vardanyan within various organizations, including an “official” representative of the so-called “Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.”
Rufat Hamzayev added that with the mentioned documentary, a new editorial direction has been created at the AnewZ television channel.
AnewZ TV channel’s Editor-in-Chief, Guy Shone, emphasized in his speech that during the filming of the documentary, all ethical principles of journalism, impartiality, and fact-checking were fully observed.
It was stated that materials published by international investigative organizations form part of the film’s factual basis.
It was noted that these processes are presented on the basis of investigations and interviews conducted in Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Ukraine, as well as analyses by members of parliament, prosecutors, regional experts, and journalists.
It was emphasized that “The Oligarch’s Design” was filmed in Italy, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, the United States, Armenia, Israel, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan.
Nearly 100 journalists, producers, camera operators, editors, and researchers took part in the preparation of the project. Some of them worked under difficult and high-risk conditions, including active war zones.
Through the “ANEWZ Investigations” platform, the channel identifies as a priority the deepening of long-term investigative journalism, a verified and data-driven approach, accountability, and a deeper understanding of how power mechanisms operate outside public scrutiny.
It was noted that the premiere of the documentary “The Oligarch’s Design” will take place this evening.
Recall that Ruben Vardanyan's trial is currently underway at the Baku Military Court, and the prosecutor has requested that he be sentenced to life imprisonment.
