At least 50 suicide cases among children registered in Azerbaijan every year

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. At least 50 cases of suicide among children are registered in Azerbaijan every year, says the report of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, APA reports.

This figure was 58 in 2008, 54 in 2009 and 57 in 2010. 16 cases of suicide among children were recorded during the first six month of 2011.

According to statistics the majority of self-murderers are boys. 38 boys and 16 girls committed suicide in Azerbaijan in 2009. The similar tendency is observed in the subsequent years.

It should be mentioned that based on the relevant Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, area police bodies conducted inspections with regard to all registered facts of suicide and attempted suicide, defined underlying causes and conditions of cases, analyzed results and sent orientation suggestions and recommendations to concerned bodies.

The State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs (Children and Family Support Centers under SCFWCA) provides awareness-raising campaigns in educational institutions, other state agencies and for families from risk groups, with the participation of psychologists and experts in this field, social reels are presented to the attention of the society.
Azerbaijan will present its report on fulfillment of its commitments undertaken under the Convention on the Rights of Children at the 59th session of United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child which is held today in Geneva.
