Baku. Kamala Guliyeva – APA. “Azerbaijan can forecast the earthquakes in the Caspian Sea region”, Director of the University of Cybernetics of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Telman Aliyev told APA. He noted that Turkmenistan was interested in the activity of ANAS Cybernetics Institute’s stations forecasting the earthquakes and asked the organization to assist in installing such stations: “If such stations are installed in Turkmenistan, the forecasting of earthquake will cover entire Caspian Sea basin”.

Aliyev said that two stations forecasting earthquakes were operating in Azerbaijan. One of them is a station installed in Gum Island on May 1, 2010. Another station was installed in Shirvan. The work is carrying out on the installment of such station in Naftalan and Siyazan: “These stations will be installed in the next three months. Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies also supports this process. The server will be established by means of the ministry and the reports transferred by the stations will be included to the server. It is possible to predict the earthquakes within a radius of 500 km 10-12 hours before. It will be possible to give the concrete coordinates of the abnormal seismic processes in that radius after 4 stations start their activity”.

Institute director also said that 4 additional stations are considered to be installed in order to increase the reliability of the forecasts in the future.
