The Sun approaching its 11-year solar maximum

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA. â€œThe Sun is approaching its 11-year solar maximum, the integral energy of the hard radiation from the Sun to the Earth is increasing. This process will reach maximal level in 2013,â€ Namig Jalilov, director of the Sun and Sun-Earth Relations department of Shamakhy Astrophysical Observatory named after N. Tusi, told APA.

According to him, the solar activity has great impact on the Sun-Earth relations.
â€œA great part of the solar surface is covered by the magnetic spots. It means that the intensity of the local magnetic fields in that area is very high. The Sun disperses a great deal of energy in the form of plasmas and ions. These processes reach maximum once in 11 years. It has great impact on the Sun-Earth relations, because the plasma mass reaches 1000-1200 km/s, this jolts the magnetic field of the Earth. This process influences both the communication lines and peopleâ€™s health. The movement of ions in the human plasma is high. When the magnetic field storms, it influences the movement of ions. This has an impact on the blood pressure of the people. This process may also cause disasters in the relations of artificial satellites and their relations with the Earth,â€ he said.

Jalilov noted that sunspot activity is not so dreadful. â€œThe Sun was formed about 4.57 years ago. Such events have occurred since the humanity was created. We shouldnâ€™t expect any dramatic change from the activity that occurs every 11 years. The human genes adapted to these events. If there is no 11-year activity, it will cause more serious consequences on the Earth. According to this yearâ€™s forecasts, the Sunâ€™s integral energy altitude will be little higher than last yearâ€™s. It is measured by the number and power of lightings on the surface of the Sun. Double X6 and X9 lightings were recorded last year. These lightings are expected to be activated this year. We record only lightings making its way towards the Earth. Two or three lightings are expected this year and it will have no disastrous consequencesâ€.

The department chief said that it is difficult to make prognosis on solar quakes like it is difficult to make it regarding the earthquakes. â€œVery complicated physical events occur there. These are chaotic processes and it is difficult to make prognosis. The lighting occurs when the magnetic power lines on the Sunâ€™s surface close in and cause short circuit. Generally it is impossible to explain magnetism, magnetic field and 11-year period on the Sunâ€.
