APA reports that representatives of various government agencies of Azerbaijan, international organizations, embassies and NGOs attended the event.

Documentary film made by the IOM was demonstrated at the outset of the event. Regional director of the IOM Renata Held said Azerbaijan is taking successful measures in the field of migration.
“Though Azerbaijan joined this organization in 2001, the main office of our organization is functioning in Azerbaijan for 15 years,” she said.

Giving information about the IOM’s projects Renata Held said the organization is interested in the establishment of the integrated border management model in the southern borders of Azerbaijan.
“We are working to organize the activity of the border management agencies using the practice of the European Union. Special trainings were held within the framework of the State Border Service. Some recommendations were given to the government,” she said.

Moreover, IOM implemented joint projects with Nakhchivan government in Azerbaijan, assisted in the implementation of the projects on granting microcredits, strengthening measures to combat human trafficking, reconstructing underground water pipelines.

Renata Held said IOM is implementing ten projects in Azerbaijan. A project was implemented in Nakhchivan Border Unit within the framework of the project of migration and border management. Within the framework of this project, the checking of the passports on the border is supported. Within the framework of the project implemented by the IOM and Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), the officers of the State Border Service will visit Turkey with the view of exchanging experience. IOM is also implementing reintegration program for the mine-affected people in Azerbaijan.

Chief of the State Migration service Arzu Rahimov said the relations are developing rapidly, there are prospects for bilateral cooperation.
“The number of the foreigners coming to the country increased due to the visa-free travel with a number of countries and some other factors. All this has made it necessary to improve the migration system and coordinate the activity of the government agencies,” he said.

Arzu Rahimov said application of the single window system in the field of migration simplified the procedures and ensured transparency.
Unique Data System was created in the field of migration. This system makes it available to obtain exact information about what happens in the field of migration in the country.

Chief of the Cabinet’s Department for Problems of Refugees, IDPs and Migration Affairs Gurban Sadigov said IOM worked closely with Azerbaijan agencies.
“We are proud of this cooperation,” he said.
IOM was established in 1951. The organization is implementing 2500 projects in various regions of the world.
