The mention of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) President Isa Habibbayli among individuals whom Ramiz Mehdiyev would allegedly appoint to positions, as circulated on social media, is another provocation against the Academy's leadership, the ANAS Public Relations Department told in a statement, APA reports.
The statement noted that during Ramiz Mehdiyev's tenure as head of the Academy, several official decisions were adopted by the Academy's leadership to remove Isa Habibbayli from his position and reduce his authority.
It was stated that under Resolution No. 1/15 of the ANAS Presidium, dated January 8, 2021, and signed by Ramiz Mehdiyev, Isa Habibbayli was dismissed from the position of First Vice-President of ANAS and appointed Acting Vice-President.
"Furthermore, by a decision adopted at the January 26, 2022 meeting of the ANAS Presidium, chaired by Ramiz Mehdiyev, the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences, which Isa Habibbayli had headed since 2013, was divided into two. The Division of Social Sciences was removed from his authority, thereby reducing his official powers.
A few days later, on February 7, 2022, Isa Habibbayli submitted an application to the head of ANAS requesting his dismissal from the position of Vice-President for the Division of Humanities.
Given the actual circumstances and relations, the information that Ramiz Mehdiyev would appoint Isa Habibbayli to a position serves to launch another smear campaign against the head of ANAS by exploiting the current situation."
