Garibov said his institute together with the International Atomic Energy Agency conducted joint expeditions for examination of radioactive nuclides in waters and bottom of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. “The transboundary waters are mostly polluted with chemical emissions. This is a serious problem. We discussed this problem with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and addressed some local and international organizations on this issue”.

Garibov said radioactive environment of the sea was in a background level. “The sea waters contain mostly natural radioactive substances, but there are not artificial radioactive nuclides. We feared of radioactive emissions from Russia’s Astrakhan oblast. But the situation is normal”.
