Deputy chairperson of Russian Federal Migration Service: Visa free travel between Russia and CIS countries creates problems in the area of migration

Moscow. Farid Akbarov â€“ APA. RIA Novosti information agency held an event entitled â€œDoes Russia need migrants?â€. APAâ€™s Moscow correspondent reports that deputy chairperson of Russian Federal Migration Service Yekaterina Yegorova, deputy director of the Institute of Demography Mikhail Denisenko and outstanding experts on migration attended the event. Yekaterina Yegorova publicized the statistics of the volume of illegal migration in Russia, occupation of jobs by migrants, influence of migrants on the crimes in the country.

Yegorova said more than 9.8 million foreigners entered the territory of Russia within the eight months of 2011. According to her, 50.34 percent of them came for private purposes, 12.47 percent to find job, 2.53 percent for official business, 11.13 percent were tourists, 1 percent came for education.
â€œ6.7 million of them wee registered at the migration service. 15653 foreigners were deported from Russia because of the violation of migration rules. Lack of the law on migration between 1991 and 2002 influenced the migration policy most of all. The migration policy was regulated a little after the law was adopted. The biggest problem related to the migration concerns the citizens of CIS member states. Visa free travel between Russia and these countries creates problems. Most of the migrants in Russia are the citizens of Ukraine and Kazakhstan,â€ she said.

Olga Chudinovskikh, director of the center for studying the problems of population at the Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, publicized the statistics concerning the involvement of migrants in the crimes committed in the country. According to the statistics, the number of the crimes committed by foreigners is half as many as those committed by Russians.
