USAID to give grant to OSCE Baku Office for purpose of combating human trafficking in Azerbaijan

Under the grant, USAID will support the OSCE’s efforts in the security and justice sectors. The activities will improve coordination and capacity among government and non-governmental actors in assisting victims of trafficking and forced labor, and train media to report on this topic. The grant agreement will finance these activities till September 2013.

In his speech, USAID/Azerbaijan Mission Director Michael Greene said that this agreement would make a new contribution to combating of human trafficking in Azerbaijan. Head of the OSCE Office in Baku Koray Targay said that USAID’s support for these projects would enable the Azerbaijani government to improve its compliance with OSCE commitments.

US Ambassador Matthew Bryza said that he was satisfied with Azerbaijan’s cooperation with foreign partners and international organizations in the field of combating the human trafficking.

In his speech, Chief of the Department on Combating Human Trafficking of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs Javad Shikhaliyev said that the signed agreement would give new incentives to outreach activities which are very important in this direction. According to him, Azerbaijani Official organizations have a good cooperation experience with the international organizations in this sphere and the new agreement will strengthen it.
