Azerbaijan will prepare the country report on the implementation of the commitments called by the Plan of Actions on Ageing

Baku. Sevil Zeynalgızı-APA. Today, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population (MLSPP) hosted a 6-day international training program in “Policy Formulation, Planning, Implementation and Monitoring of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing” organized jointly with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Institute on Ageing, UN-Malta. According to APA, the seminar will continue till September 17, and focus on discussing the implications of population ageing, underscoring the importance of including the ageing issues into a country’s development planning, and discussing options for policy formulation and programme/services implementation. The Program will also aim at providing a broad and up-to-date understanding of the complex and far-reaching consequences of individual longevity.
Mr. Elnur Kalantarov, the Deputy Head of Administration of the MLSPP, while addressing the meeting said that the average life expectancy has increased in Azerbaijan: "While the average life expectancy of the population during the years 1990-1995 decreased from 71 to 69, last year the life expectancy at birth constituted 74 years, including 71 for boys and 76 years for girls”.

According to Kalantarov, the implementation of the relevant policies and programs related to older persons that have had a positive impact on their lives will be discussed during the Global Conference held in 2012, on the eve of the 10th Anniversary of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA). E. Kalantarov mentioned that Azerbaijan will prepare the country report on the implementation of the commitments called by the Plan of Actions.
