Soviet army’s aircraft shot down during World War II found in Hungary

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. A military aircraft, which belonged to the Soviet army during the World War II, was found in a settlement in the north of Hungary. APA reports quoting Turkish media that Hungarian Defense Ministry issued a statement about it.

Two pilot and single engine Soviet military aircraft IL-2 was supposedly shot down while bombing Hungary. The engine of the aircraft was found during the digging in the area. The pilot’s spectacles were also found. It is being determined whether the pilot and fighter pilot died in the accident or not.

USSR produced 36163 IL-2 aircrafts. 12 000 of them were shot down in the battles, 11 000 crashed. 8100 pilots and 57 000 fighter pilots were killed in the crashes and battles.
