47 new schools were opened in the country. AZN 2 000 000 were spent for 12957 bench, 1080 blackboards, 2095 teacher tables and 3750 teacher chairs for equipping the schools in different regions. The construction of new schools and additional buildings, fundamental reconstruction and supplying with the modern equipments, renovation of the infrastructure helped to improve the education conditions for more than one million pupils in the country. As a result of construction of new school buildings in the past ten years, the number of two-shift schools was reduced from 735 to 44%, the number of pupils studying in the second shift â€“ from 34.5% to 21%.

Spokesperson for the Baku Education Office Zamina Aligizi told APA about 320 000 pupils will attend 326 schools in the capital city this year. 33 464 of them will attend first classes of the elementary schools. Aligizi said significant work has been done for the improvement of material-technical basis of the elementary and secondary schools of Baku in the past years. â€œToday four new schools open its doors. 57 school buildings were fundamentally reconstructed and new classes and buildings were built. However 18 school buildings in Baku are still in state of emergency. According to the State Program for socio-economic development of Baku and its suburbs in 2011-2013, all school buildings in the city will be reconstructed in accordance with the modern standards until the end of 2013â€.
