Azerbaijani Ombudsman issues message on September 21- International Day of Peace
“Due to the double standards, Muslim states are becoming conflict zones, their people bearing heavy losses. As a result of Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan for over 20 years, one fifth of the territories has been occupied, about one million people have become refugees and internally displaced persons, tens of thousands of people have fallen victims to the genocide acts, massacres and ethnic cleansing committed by Armenians, thousands of settlements, educational, health and other public facilities, historical, cultural monuments have been destroyed. Thousands of our compatriots have gone missing, been captured and taken hostage, despite the ceasefire this process is still lasting, children, women, the old have been suffering from this armed conflict. Long-lasting peace talks, mediation mission of the international organizations (UN, Council of Europe, OSCE Minsk Group and others) have not produced positive results in the solution of the problem.â€
The appeal notes that it was needed lend a support to the peacemaking processes in such period, all efforts must be taken towards the increase of the people’s welfare and maintaining peace: “The direct way to the sustainable development passes through the peace, justice, tolerance and supremacy of law. “September 21 – The international Day of Peace is celebrated in entire world including Azerbaijan, because the realization of human rights and freedoms are possible only under the conditions of peace. We condemn all wars, terror and tragedies in the world, Armenia’s aggression against our people and our country, which has been continuing for a long time, and we consider it as a negative factor which influences stability and peacemaking process in the world and South Caucasus, we call on the world community, international organizations, including UN, which is one of the most influential organizations in the world, to take constructive measures in the peaceful settlement of the conflict, to defend Azerbaijan’s rightful position and support the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. We expect for decisive position of the representatives of UN, as well as the other countries during the discussion of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict which was included in the agenda of the UN General Assembly’s 66th session, which has started recently, and hope in the adoption of resolution which will reflect the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and the rights of refugees and IDPs, as well as rights of captives and missing peopleâ€.
