Baku State University among worldâ€™s 700 universities

Press service of the Baku State University told APA that, information about 2919 universities was analyzed and 712 universities were included in the ranking list. 80 new universities were added to the list this year. 18 of them are located in the Central European and former Soviet countries. The rankings are determined by five main criteria â€“ academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty student, international faculty and international students.

According to the recent UNESCO conference in Paris, there are 20 000 universities in the world now and 700 top universities are considered as elite higher education centers, which are 4 % of total number of the universities.

QS World University Rankings was founded by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which is a company specializing in education and study abroad. The company was founded in 1990 by Wharton School MBA graduate Nunzio Quacquarelli. Today, QS has over 200 employees and operates globally from offices in London (head office in Hampstead, North London), New York, Paris, Singapore, Stuttgart, Boston, Washington DC, Sydney, Shanghai, Johannesburg and Alicante. QS provides services for undergraduates, graduates, Masters, PhDs, MBA, and EMBA candidates. It offers publications and events to broaden the scope of study abroad. QS runs events and produces guides for postgraduates across 35 countries.
